The first Hewlett/PRB Research Program on Population, Reproductive
Health, and Economic Development Research Proposal Writing Workshop for
New Scientists was held in Arusha, Tanzania, on December 7-8, 2007. New scholars gained skills in preparing research proposals for
obtaining funding from a variety of sources. They also met and networked with other new scholars interested in population, reproductive health, and economic
development in Africa. The facilitator was Aron Primack, M.D., MPH,
program director of The Fogarty International Center, U.S. National
Institutes of Health. Workshop Presenters were Aron Primack, "Proposal Writing Basics;" Tamara Fox (Hewlett Foundation), "Tips and Tricks for Getting Funding;" Nyovani Madise (University of Southampton), "Getting Your Research Funded in Africa."
